Position Description:

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Pediatric Cardiologist level of Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure) may also be considered for up to a maximum of two years. The individual selected will join the Division of Pediatric Cardiology to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a Pediatric Cardiologist and serve as a trainee in Pediatric Electrophysiology with 80% time spent training in imaging and 20% time spent support the general pediatric cardiology clinical programs.

Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is ranked No. 24 in NIH funding among public pediatric departments nationwide by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research.   

The pediatrics department comprises the medical staff of University of Iowa Health Care Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Iowa’s only nationally ranked children’s hospital and home to the state’s only Level 4 NICU and Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians.   

For its 2024-25 edition of “Best Children’s Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report ranked Stead Family Children's Hospital in nine pediatric specialties:   Behavioral Health, Cancer, Cardiology, Heart, and Vascular Surgery, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology.

Education Requirement:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent 

Required Qualifications:

Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics, or equivalent  

Board certified or eligible Pediatric Cardiology 

Candidates must be licensed or eligible for medical licensure in the State of Iowa 

Desirable Qualifications:

Interest and/or expertise in Pediatric Cardiology

Interest in pediatric electrophysiology including ablation, pacemakers, and implantable cardiac defibrillators, complex cardiac device procedures, lead extraction, extravascular ICDs, and leadless pacemakers.

Interest in non-invasive electrophysiology, including inherited arrhythmia syndromes and sports cardiology.

Experience in patient-oriented research 

Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents 

Evidence of scholarly activity 

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills 

Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment
